Two things... First, it was my understanding that hyperscalers do not charge for data ingress because the name of the game is data capture. Once they have your data it is very hard to go somewhere else. Especially since the industry gave them a pass on charging for egress. The costs of moving data in the cloud are very low once you figure that most of the cost is in lighting up their own dark fiber. And if I am wrong about the cost then they should be charging for ingress and egress.

Second, are you saying the hyperscalers now have to pay per token for models that are hosted on their own infrastructure? And somehow the financial wizards have figured out how to round-trip less of that money back to the hyperscaler to generate those tokens? At the risk of sounding like our friend Ed Zitron, has the financial model of AI just added another layer of stupid?
